The Preserve Championship
RESULTS - 🏆 BRADLEY WILLIAMS & PAIGE PIERCE
MPO/ The love was unreal this weekend. Everyone from pros to fans had huge smiles and high energy, especially Cale Leiviska. It was truly a disc golf paradise.
The 1st two rounds had high humidity but low winds allowing players to shred. Friday’s magic number was -13 (1072 rated) by Gurthie and Klein, but hitting double digits again were Bradley Williams, Lizotte, and Conrad for Saturday’s top 3.
Then came Sunday’s wind with swirly patches, but Ricky Wysocki couldn’t care less. At one point catching his off-season training buddy, he was on fire all round until the last 3 heartbreaker holes.
But Williams didn’t know how close Wysocki had gotten until Hole 18, and it didn’t matter… Destiny was on his side, and it pulled him through the course the whole weekend.
Congrats to Bradley Williams, one of the most respected pros on tour - the veteran’s veteran - the BH master - the king of touch - the magic juice holder. The Prickly Cactus is back, and calmer than ever.
FPO/ Paige Pierce made The Preserve her playground. Starting with an astounding -10 round (1015 rated), she birdied 12 holes with only 1 ugly double bogey.
Ella Hansen, Missy Gannon, and Holyn Handley attempted to attack with distance rollers and birdie streaks, but Pierce played a clean 2nd round to hold a 3-stroke lead.
On Sunday, she went on to complete a wire-to-wire victory with only a -2 round (984 rated). It was her 70th Elite Series/Major event win, the most of any player.
6 years ago, Williams & Pierce won the very 1st DGPT event - The 2016 Vibram Open. Destiny was there to make it happen again for the 2 competitors.
STANDOUT PLAYER
Kyle Klein… Is he back? The crush boy earned his spot on lots of coverage this weekend. He showed off his smooth power, long spin putts, and that he still deserves the spotlight.
With Idlewild in 2 weeks, it’s a good time for him to show back up. He’ll need all that and more to defend his title.
HIGHLIGHT
There was no shortage of throw-ins, but the winner takes it with a blind 250ft birdie on The Preserve’s hardest hole.
Surprise… Celebrity Pro-Am
Remember last year when we saw the likes of Ben Askren, Andrew Zimmern, and Dylan Cease throwing with our touring pros? Supposedly, the 2022 Celebrity Pro-Am Invitational is tomorrow (6/29) at Askren’s Funky Farms.
There has been zero mention of the event by the DGPT or anyone until Sunday. Catrina Allen briefly spoke about it when describing her upcoming schedule.
This Thursday (6/30) is the start of the 2022 US Women’s DG Championships in Madison, WI. Funky Farms is only an hour away in Milwaukee, WI, so the math works out.
And to cement it, Hunter from Foundation DG confirmed the event with Brodie Smith. They speculated it could’ve been last minute, and there are no plans to live stream it hence the zero promo.
So keep an eye on socials and vlogs for any snippets to come out of the event. And if not, you can count on me.
Fresh Plastic
Insights by OTB Discs… Where the discs are VIRTUALLY IN YOUR HAND.
🛸 OTB’s Highlight: Discmania Sky God 4 (2|3|0|1)
3 words: Disc golf candy. Simon Lizotte’s latest signature series is dropping tomorrow (6/29) at 11AM EST.
Lizotte describes the mouth-watering lifesavers as “the most OS run ever” perfect for flex ace runs in the woods and reliable upshots in the wind. And just in time for summer, their extra firmness pairs perfectly with the heat molding it into your hand.
Speaking of OS, Calvin Heimburg’s Innova Toro (4|2|0|4) has been restocked in tasty Color Glow plastic. This is Innova’s latest and greatest attempt at replicating the Discraft Zone.
These (1) very flat - some slight puddle top - are beefy and reminiscent of irreplaceable Glo Zones from years past. Many Zone throwers have made the switch over, and you could be one of them today (myself included).
Random Dubs
1️⃣ For the upcoming President’s Cup, Big Jerm won the captain’s vote, sort of... Nate Sexton won by a landslide, but he’s no longer coming. So when you can’t get #1, you ask for #2 of Big Sexy.
Now they’re once again asking for your vote, but this time for a member on each team. It’s a small 3-person ballot, but Roc the vote by Thursday (6/30).
2️⃣ Aleksi Tuomela from the Songs & Sketches For Humanity channels (19k subs) shared his journey from 250ft to 400ft. This video is well worth the 20min.
I’m not telling you to watch only for a few form tips… The video is informative, high-quality, and captivating. Aleksi is of average height and athleticism with a clear dedication to this goal.
And don’t let the thumbnail fool you, less than 10% of the video is about “simulations.” This is Grade A content.
