Hello and welcome. This is The Players Meeting, where we take lemons and make beef stew.

If you missed the PDXO recap, then I got you: Getting wet & wild in PDX
Let’s get into it.
DoubleG Craft Jerky
On The Upshot, Garrett Gurthie still didn’t know why he threw sidearm on Hole 18, but he’s taking 2nd place in stride. He’s happy with the fact that he gave himself a chance.
Golf aside, his “iconic” business has had strong momentum and isn’t slowing down. Gurthie explained the origins, progress, and future of DoubleG Craft Jerky.
For years now, he’s been selling camper-made jerky to other touring pros and camera crews. The extra cash was useful, but his business partners thought he should get it “out to the masses.”
Now they’ve partnered with top pros and have jerky in player packs, DG retailers, and 100 brick-and-mortar stores including Ace Hardware. You’re probably thinking, “Wow, DoubleG must be raking it in.”
Actually, he’s not touching any of his jerky money right now. His dried meat (and plant-based coming soon) empire will fund his retirement when he’s no longer throwing 700ft shots.
But Gurthie’s here for the long haul, and he plans to give back to the community that’s helped him along the way. Perhaps, this is how he’ll make his mark on the sport: King of distance and jerky.
Beaver State Fling (Silver Series)
PREVIEW (6/10-12)
It’s finally back. After missing the Tour for 2 years due to storm damage and Covid, Milo McIver - “crown jewel of Pacific NW” - will be showcased with live coverage on Sunday.
Originally, the DGPT announced no live coverage due to poor cell service, which has always been the argument against BSF. But with improved equipment and testing, DGN says the signal will work.
Play will be on both East & West courses that are home to a slew of historic shots and holes. The Philobatross needs no introduction as the previous most famous shot (West H6).
These bucket list courses have masterful fairways making it impossible to pick favorites. According to folklore, East’s Hole 9 is called the “Genius Hole” because the designers thought the teepad location was genius.
This weekend you can expect a close, nail-biting finish again. There’s something in Stumptown’s air that squeezes the leaders tight between the tree-lined, grassy fairways.
2019 RECAP
MPO/ As expected, it was a 2 horse race. Separated from the field by more than 5, Eagle McMahon and Seppo Paju battled it out.
Your boy tried to apply the pressure but couldn’t birdie any of the last 3 to force a playoff. McMahon defended his crown making him 2X BSF champ.
FPO/ Like this season, the FPO Europeans generally skip the West Coast swing. In 2019, it was the Paige Pierce vs. Catrina Allen show.
You’d flip a coin to see which one would win in a particular week. Pierce got the best of Allen this time to also earn her second BSF title.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
The MPO field breathes a sigh of relief knowing Simon Lizotte isn’t playing this weekend. Ricky Wysocki, McMahon, AND Lizotte are out. This has to mean Paul McBeth will make a run at his 3rd BSF title, even if he thinks these courses are overrated.
For FPO, watch Ohn Scoggins and Juliana Korver. Their veteran status will be useful at these legendary courses where landing zones are key. Let’s not forget their last few stellar performances.
You’ll be able to watch the coverage live for the final round on DGN. Or on next-day coverage at the DGPT YouTube channel.
President’s Cup Captains
The day before the European Open (7/21-24) has always been reserved for the President’s Cup - an epic team showdown between USA & Europe. There’s been a 3-year gap due to Covid, so this 10th edition will be special.
Held at The Beast in Nokia, Finland, Team USA has never lost. It’s a fun event for both teams and spectators generating excitement for the long weekend ahead.
But first, captains for each team need to be chosen by the fans. By this Sunday (6/12), vote for your choice of captain for each team.
Nate Sexton’s on the ballot, but he mentioned at PDXO that he’ll skip EU events this year. So be wary of voting for your favorite commentator… Big Jerm’s on the list too.
Random Dubs
1️⃣ Since you’ll need something while waiting for BSF coverage, pencil in David Wiggins Jr’s “Throw for Dough” mini-doc on DGN. You’ll need a subscription or your buddy’s password, but I promise it’s worth a watch.
Here’s my review of The story of DG’s Superboy…
David’s profile was covered last month, but refresh your memory here. The DGN film is 16 min long and left you wanting more even though that story hasn’t happened yet.
The 27-year-old is a player like you or me nowadays but has 1000ft of power locked away. And learning about him was eye-opening since his story hasn’t been covered for years.
Thank you DGN for high production content that will perpetuate the sport’s history.
2️⃣ A jacked and hyped-up Gavin Babcock hit the elusive $10k ace on GK Pro’s OTB Tour Skins. The wait is finally over.
Nate Sexton willed it in with his McBeth “dinner’s on me” story. And Babcock had been thinking about that exact Prodigy P Model US shot for days before.
Meme of the Week
Thanks for reading today. Get out and compete this weekend!
