Hello and welcome, this is The Players Meeting. We take the best qualities of every overrated disc and bundle them into the GOAT disc for you.

If you missed the Idlewild recap, then I got you: Mud Sliding through Idlewild
Let’s get into it.
A Thunderbird that Flies like a Zone
From Austin, TX, Mike Davis started his own disc line with his 1st PDGA approval - the G1R1 from Sector. He posted his story on Reddit and shared that the 3D-printed prototype flies like a Zone but feels like a Thunderbird in your hand.
After reading that, I had so many questions. So I asked him, and he responded:
What inspired the unique design?
I like to blame my shanks on grip issues when switching between drivers and mids. This would address that. Also, my dad doesn’t throw mids because he doesn’t like the feel.
Will every disc in the lineup “feel like a Thunderbird”?
The GxRx naming convention identifies grip and rim configuration. So yeah, all the G1Rx line should feel like a thunderbird but have different flights. There may be other grips for other lines; everyone has a different preference.
Does the flight change depending on BH or FH?
Not currently, although I have some interesting plans in the works.
Can you grip it in different spots than intended?
Not the intended use but seems like a good idea. The non-grip sections aren’t great with a power grip but may work with a fan grip.
What’s the ground play like?
This one sticks like a putter. We have a distance driver design where the non-grip sections are wider than the grip sections. That one should have a nice skip.
What’s next?
Continue 3D printing prototypes and get them approved? Or get this one manufactured? This was a proof of concept to see if it would be approved. I’d like to partner/license with a manufacturer to get injection molding and flight modeling expertise.
PCS Sula Open (Silver Series)
PREVIEW (7/13-16)
Welcome to Ragnarok & The Gates of Valhalla. This is the 1st international event for the DGPT and is considered for Silver Series points.
Starting yesterday (7/13), pros play 2 rounds at Vasset Diskgolfpark and then 2 rounds at Øverås Diskgolfpark. Vasset is a destination course on its own, but paired with Øverås this event will highlight some of Norway’s finest.
These are not the long courses typical on Tour, but they need technical and unique shots. The weather this weekend could include heavy rain and winds, especially on holes near the many bodies of water.
Several US pros hopped the pond and are flinging plastic in Norway. Those of note are Calvin Heimburg, James Conrad, Kevin Jones, Thomas Gilbert, & Gregg Barsby.
This is the largest pool of US players they’ve ever seen. The year 2019 was the last time, and it was only Eagle McMahon & Avery Jenkins who attended.
LAST YEAR RECAP
Blær Örn Ásgeirsson, Iceland’s highest-rated player, won his largest payout here. You may know him from his top-20 finish at the Open at Tallahassee or his interview with Scott Stokely.
He toured the US a bit early this season and will compete in Worlds next month. Last year, he won this event by 7 strokes and averaged 1026-rated golf.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Besides the several US pros, Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane) is also competing. It takes place in his home country, and he’s been involved with the activities all week.
He may only be 831 rated but loves the sport and has been star-struck by US pros. Look out for his appearance in the GK Pro Skins match with Luke Humphries & KJ USA next week.
You’ll be able to watch live all weekend on DGN. Or on next-day coverage at the MDG Media channel.

Random Dubs
1️⃣ The Presidents cup occurs in less than a week (7/20), and teams are finalized. Adam Hammes & Albert Tamm won the Fans’ Choice vote two weeks ago, then the captains chose James Conrad & Knut Valen Håland.
Barring any last minute changes, Eagle McMahon will make his debut back at this event followed by the European Open. But don’t get your hopes up yet, currently he’s only signed up for these two and Worlds.
2️⃣ Masters & Junior Worlds are happening right now in Peoria, IL. On PDGA radio, Nate Heinold (TD) shared that this will be the 1st time the age-protected divisions are together and aren’t at the same time as MPO/FPO Worlds.
To kick off the event, Holly Finley aced Hole 8 at Northwoods Blue with her Star Roadrunner.
